The occasion......
Star Gazing nite for the summer campers at Nerul Gymkhana.
There were about 30 children and equal number of adults all eager to
learn more about astronomy and have a wonderful gaze at the
planets and stars through the 3 telescopes put up for the occasion.
I had put up my telescope with the help of the khagol mandal team
and hooked my nikon d50 to the telescope and took some pictures
Honestly this was my second attempt at astro photography after photographing the lunar eclipse last year at Karnala.
I attempted to photograph the event of the evening...Mars occultation. Mars is seen coming out
a small speck to the right of the moon.
Being an amateur I could not photograph the phase of Mars getting behind Moon
but could photograph Mars coming out .
in the picture above we can see mars moving away ( small speck to the right of the moon in right hand corner of the picture)
The nite was quite exciting for the children and adults gathered at the venue
and they were agog when Rohan was explaining the ways and means of identifying the stars and planets. After this the participants were thrilled
to see some of heavenly bodies.
We thank Khagol Mandal for this exciting star gazing nite. This is the
third year in succession that we are having this event and we hope
to have more of such events in future.

and we would be too glad to assist.
